The american work ethic sucks. I'm fortunate in that I only usually have to work 8 hours a day, including lunch, actually less than I have had to work at other jobs. I've always heard they get much more time off in europe, does that seem to be the case? 2 hour lunch breaks and month long vacations, that would be nice..

2 hour lunchbreaks and month-long holidays -- hmmm. I can't speak for continental Europe, where I do believe the working days are often shorter, the lunch hours longer, the holidays more frequent and the pension provisions munificent (all very well until you look at their economies) but in dear ol' Blighty (London at least) we are closer to the USA model. I too count myself exceedingly fortunate in that I have a quasi-Civil Service job where I work between 8 or 9 hours on a normal day, no lunch hour in practice -- my previous job, in an IT consultancy, entailed an 11 hour day as standard, working late into the night whenever a project neared its end. It's funny how the contracts always say 9-5 with an hour for lunch!
